These new requirements are detailed in Chapter III, Plumbing, of the Quebec Construction Code and based on the 2012 edition of CSA B125.1 and B125.3. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/backfloshop.creatures.ca\/en\/lead-contamination-in-drinking-water\/\">These measures seek to reduce the presence of lead in drinking water<\/a><\/span>, which is harmful to health.<\/p>\n<h2>List of products affected and not affected by changes<\/h2>\n<p>For now, only <strong>products specifically used for drinking water intended for human consumption<\/strong> are subject to these new requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water supply fittings for drinkers<\/li>\n<li>Water taps for kitchen sinks<\/li>\n<li>Washbasins and tubs<\/li>\n<li>Shut-off valves<\/li>\n<li>Automatic compensating faucets (excluding showers)<\/li>\n<li>Supply shut-off valves<\/li>\n<li>Integrated temperature actuated mixing valves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Products dedicated to the distribution of drinking water that <strong>are\u00a0not intended for human consumption<\/strong> are not affected by these regulations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Automatic compensation taps wall mounted shower systems<\/li>\n<li>Supply fittings for baths and showers<\/li>\n<li>Supply fittings for bidets<\/li>\n<li>Supply fittings for washers<\/li>\n<li>Shut-off valves for humidifiers<\/li>\n<li>Supply fittings for mop sinks<\/li>\n<li>Lawn and sediment drain valves<\/li>\n<li>Self-closing, rolling feed connections<\/li>\n<li>Shower heads<\/li>\n<li>Hand showers<\/li>\n<li>Body Sprays<\/li>\n<li>Anti-siphon supply valves<\/li>\n<li>Solenoid and flush valves<\/li>\n<li>Thermal expansion relief valves<\/li>\n<li>Siphon initiators<\/li>\n<li>All other products not covered by CSA B125.1 \/.3 standards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Lead-free backflow prevention device: mandatory from 2017<\/h2>\n<p>Pressure reducers and <strong>backflow preventer devices for area or establishment protection will be added to the list of targeted equipment from 2017<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is why we now recommend installing backflow prevention devices that have less than 0.25% in lead content on all drinking water plumbing systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Backflo Shop has access to several brands and models of lead-free backflow prevention devices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/backfloshop.creatures.ca\/en\/contact\/\">Ask our experts<\/a><\/span> to help you select the right device for your needs!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lead-free plumbing products: New requirements\u00a0 In Quebec, since May 1, 2014, it is prohibited to install faucets and other plumbing accessories containing more than 0.25% in lead concentration, encouraging the use of lead-free plumbing products.
