Strainers

Strainers (or Y-strainers) prevent debris from accumulating in the backflow prevention device, thus avoiding clogging and breakage of the check valves, seals, and relief valve. They are highly recommended and are primarily installed upstream of backflow prevention devices.

It is advisable to inspect and clean them regularly to prevent debris buildup, which can reduce water pressure and flow.

They can be made of cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, or silicon bronze.
